humour is indeed all about surprise...especially puns. like my personal favourite:
why do our hopes and dreams have nothing to do with vomit? i mean both are aspirations. sure lets you know what the common opinion of them are.
as for the testosterone thing, humour is one of the aspects most males try to showcase when searching for a mate or more seriously trying to pitch woo.
does that mean women who take on the funny approach have higher levels of testosterone?
